Tree damaged by storm.

Dealing with storm-damaged trees

Recent storms may have done a number on your trees. Whether they're in your yard or the grove behind the barn, trees and woodlands are a valuable part of your property and it pays to handle them appropriately.

ISU extension forestry specialist Billy Beck and others from ISU extension's natural resource stewardship group have assembled resources for those who need to deal with immediate and longer-term tree and forest issues.

Tree and Woodland Storm Recovery Resources. Created following the August 2020 derecho, this page of information and resource links answers the "what now?" question for landowners.

Storm-Damaged Forests, a 4-part video series. Produced for the ISU integrated pest management YouTube channel, each focuses on a separate aspect of the derecho story and impact on trees.

Windbreak damage recovery. Created for ISU Extension and Outreach's CropsTV, this windbreak school video provides information specific to windbreaks, from establishment to recovery after storm damage.

When current damage is addressed and cleanup is done, remember that proper planning now may help you avoid, or at least lessen, potential damage from future storms. This blog post by Beck has a short, yet vital, list of what to do.
