AFTON, Iowa  — Cattle producers are invited to attend a calving workshop on Jan. 29 at the Afton Community Center. Iowa State University extension beef specialist Chris Clark said the educational program will offer valuable information about calving, health, and nutrition, and include a hands-on calving simulation.

“We'll talk about the calving process and touch on some health and nutrition topics, and the highlight of the program will be hands-on practice delivering calves using our life-sized dystocia model,” he said. “Spring calving season is right around the corner for most producers and this program provides some timely information that producers can start using right away.”

The clinic will be held Thursday, Jan. 29, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Afton Community Center, 220 N. Douglas St. A light meal will be provided. The registration fee is $15 which will help cover program expenses. The program is also supported by the Union and Ringgold County Extension programs.

Please preregister by Jan. 27 by contacting either Ringgold County Extension at 641-464-3333 or dawnd@iastate.edu, or Union County Extension at 641-782-8426 or jhitz@iastate.edu
