Eastern Iowa Hay Producers Association Annual Meeting is March 20 in Welton

VINTON, Iowa – All hay producers in the region are invited to attend the 40th annual Eastern Iowa Hay Producers Association Annual Meeting and Conference on March 20 at Buzzy’s in Welton. Registration starts at 10 a.m. with the program scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.

This year’s program will feature two newer Iowa State University staff: Dr. Shelby Gruss, assistant professor in forage extension, and Madelynn Wuestenberg, agricultural climatology extension specialist. Dr. Gruss will talk about selecting alfalfa varieties to meet your goals, including trait and economic considerations, variety ratings, and resources to help in your selection process. Wuestenberg will present the weather outlook for the 2025 growing season. ISU extension beef specialist Denise Schwab will discuss drought-proofing your forage base, and Virgil Schmitt, ISU extension field agronomist, will discuss the economic return for fertilizing forages.

Following lunch, there will be a brief annual meeting to elect officers and directors.  A drawing for prizes will be held at the end of the day.

Registration for the conference is $30 and includes a membership to EIHPA and noon meal. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Certified crop advisor credits are also available. This conference is sponsored by EIHPA, ISU Extension and Outreach, and the Iowa Beef Center.

EIHPA provides educational workshops and field days for forage producers in Jackson, Jones, Clinton, Cedar, Scott, and Muscatine counties.
