NEW VIRGINIA, Iowa – Pasture management decisions made today can impact grazing success not just this season, but well into the future. Warren County and surrounding area producers are invited to a late afternoon pasture walk Aug. 26 in New Virginia to hear from several Iowa State University extension specialists on grazing-specific topics.

This event will take place at 22456 90th Ave, New Virginia, near Medora. Check-in starts at 5 p.m. with a light meal grilled by the Warren County Cattlemen.

“Pasture walks allow attendees to learn in a relaxed setting where they can ask questions and really influence the direction of the discussion," said ISU extension beef specialist Chris Clark. "This walk will be unique with some good visual aids and speakers with an array of expertise.”

Clark will be joined by state extension forage specialist Shelby Gruss, extension agronomist Meaghan Anderson, and other beef specialists to lead discussions on managing grazing height and rest periods this fall for the next grazing season and effective fall weed control. A new “Grazing Trailer” equipped with various pasture management equipment and educational materials will also be on-site.

There is no charge for attendees thanks to sponsorship from ISU Extension and Outreach, Warren County Farm Bureau and the Iowa Forage and Grassland Council.

Registrations are appreciated by Aug. 25 to help with the meal count. To register, call the Warren County Extension Office at 515-961-6237. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and dress for weather and walking. No bathroom facilities are on-site, and attendees should plan accordingly.
